Userkaf

Brief biography of Userkaf

Userkaf was the founder of the 5th Dynasty of Old Ancient Egypt. Userkaf was the son of Neferhetepes (It is unsure if Neferhetepes was the mother or the sister) and his father is unknown. The bloodline of Userkaf is not very clear and it is uncertain if he had anymore wives and if he had any children.

Userkaf (also known as Weserkaf) was also the successor of Shepseskare. The name Weserkaf means 'his soul is powerful'. It is known to be this because he married the Heiress Khentkaues, a descendant from the main branch of the royal family.

How the pyramid was constructed

Userkaf's pyramid was measured to have Each edge 73.3 meters. Its outer layer was made out of limestone and was laid in an irregular manner that when the limestone had eradicated, the pyramid crumbled into rubble.

The pyramid's mortuary faced the South of the pyramid, however almost all of the other mortuary's faced the East. It is not know why it is this way.

The burial chamber of Userkaf were completely covered and made out limestones. The chamber had pillars leaning against each other and surprisingly, no decorations on the walls of the chamber.

What the pyramid was constructed for

Userkaf's pyramid (also known As "Pure are the arts of Userkaf") was built as a chapel for himself. In the chapel, people gave him offerings and was also a the future mortuary temple for when Userkaf deceases.

The mortuary temple was also used as storage for limestone, however the limestones are now missing because it was all stolen by different robbers. Only 2 limestone busts were recovered.

Interesting facts

Pure are the arts of Userkaf was built to represent the artistic reputation in their time era.

Userkaf's timeline was not properly documented, therefore it is not sure whether the bloodline I mentioned before was absolutely true.
